So far we have studied the following vowel sounds: /з:/as in girl, world or urge; /I/ as in hill, bit, it or manage /i:/as in sheep, leave or meat and /e/ as in dress, spread or said.
Do practice the sentences and readings you have for each sound so you don´t forget about it.
In the lesson before we were also working on stress patterns. We saw that when regular verbs end in a dental consonant we add a new syllable when we make the past inflection: want-wanted, award-awarded, decide-decided. The same think happens when we have to make the plural of words that end in consonants like /s/ /z/ or /dʒ/ (and other ones) such as class, quiz or orange or when we have to add an s for a possessive or have to make the the 3rd person in singular of a present simple tense: watch- watches.
In our last lesson we were also listening to a recording of conversations about different people: some of them were negative, some of them were positive.
As I think I did not give you enough homework, that´s something you can do: you can write a dialogue between two friends talking about a third one. After all this is something that happens quite often in real life: be creative, be funny, enjoy yourself.
Finally we were making sentences with adverb clauses including it.
I can´t stand it when people cut in front of me in a line.
I love it when someone gives me a nice surprise.
Remember to write those sentences for homework. Beginning with I like it, I don´t mind it, It doesn´t bother me, It makes me happy, It really upsets me, I can´t stand it.
See you next week
